Introduction
Humana Corpus Dignitate is a private nonprofit foundation that aims to provide support and education to the community based on the faith practices and teachings of the Catholic Church supported by medical and scientific research. With a team that combines the experience and education of a nurse practitioner and a theologian, there is an unfolding of Romans 1:20 with an emphasis on how God is revealed in the human body. HCD uses theological teachings about the human person that are revealed in Scripture along with physiological truths rooted in scientific evidence. In doing so they make use of two disciplines that are seen by some as polar opposites to in fact reinforce Church teachings on the human person as designed by God.
Using the holistic approach exemplified by the work of Jesus Christ in his earthly ministry along with a real world approach Carlos and Angel offer presentations on a wide range of topics in order to help others understand and realize their dignity and self-worth while learning to overcome and/or cope with physical, emotional, mental and spiritual obstacles through self-care and prayer.
How this got started
A collaborative effort between two long-time friends who, in sharing their life experiences about their families, professions, education, faith journeys, achievements and struggles discovered a common calling to help others find their dignity and self-worth as beloved children of God. Carlos wanting to incorporate sound scientific and medical evidence to enforce Church teachings as an educator in theology would frequently call upon Angel for answers or resources. In turn, Angel, who was educated in Christian universities and taught Catechism at her home parish, would frequently call Carlos for his expertise in theology and Church teachings in order to strengthen the faith teachings in her work as a Catechist and faith integration projects, as well as help build her faith in the moments of struggle in her work as a healthcare professional. What they eventually unveiled was not just a common goal, but a seamless partnership built on the foundation of their friendship and faith in the Lord.
About our Team
Carlos Solorzano
Carlos Solorzano has a BA in Religious Studies from Cal State Long Beach, an MA in Religious Studies with a concentration in New Testament & Ancient Christianity from Cal State Long Beach as well as an AA in Music from El Camino Community College in Torrance, CA. He is also certified through the Theology of the Body Institute near Philadelphia, PA, has an Advanced Certification for Religious Education through the Diocese of Tucson and is a student of Global Christianity as he has an interest in the history and faith expressions of Catholics from around the world.
He is currently teaching theology at St. Augustine Catholic High School in Tucson, AZ and has taught high school theology for 23 years. He has been involved in the professional development of his colleagues, retreat programs for all students including Kairos while also mentoring new theology teachers. His teaching experience also includes 6 years of part time work teaching ethics, philosophy & medical ethics at the college level.
Outside of the classroom he has also led retreats & has given talks at various Catholic parishes for Adults, Life Teen & other Youth Ministries, XLT/Newman Center College Ministries and at Catholic feeder schools for Middle School level students on the Theology of the Body, Chastity, the Dangers of Pornography, the Dignity of the Human Person, Family Issues, etc.

His teaching approach is to apply theological teachings to real world settings, which includes making use of various disciplines outside of the world of theology in order to show the relevancy of such teachings in a world has become suspect of religion. For years he would call upon the medical expertise of his close friend Angelica "Angel" Delallana since so much of what he teaches has to do with the way the human body works. This has led Carlos and Angel to combine their talents and their calling to share what they know for the benefit of the Kingdom of God, thus, leading to the creation of the Humana Corpus Dignitate Institute.
In addition to his teaching theology and working with HCD Carlos is also a professional drummer and has released two albums of his own music through Sun Mirror Productions, which is an off shoot company to HCD that he also started with Angel. Sun Mirror also distributes his books, which includes his fictitious Marian memoir I Am His Mother that imagines the life of Jesus through his mother's eyes. Through Time and Eternity and An Early Apocalypse, which make up his supernatural thriller series called The Angelic Conspiracy along with a music memoir and his first drumming book.

Angelica “Angel” DelaLlana has been a registered nurse for over 10 years. Her education began at Los Angeles Harbor College, where she received her Associates of Science in Nursing, as well as an Associates in Liberal Arts. Through Grand Canyon University, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She received Master of Science in Nursing from Azusa Pacific University and with an emphasis in Family Nurse Practitioner. She was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nurses. Her experiences in medical-surgical and critical care nursing had helped her gain a greater appreciation of the importance of faith and community during times of suffering, death, and healing. The years she has spent serving the underserved populations made her see the impact of having a sense of self-worth not based on wealth, and the even greater need to educate and empower others to have accountability for their own health and well-being. Aesthetics gave her an understanding of the need for humans to realize not just who they are as people, but to perceive their bodies in a more positive light. Along with working clinically, Angel has taught CPR for health care professionals and clinical skills in a vocational nursing school. Currently, she is a clinical professor for the undergraduate registered nurse program for Azusa Pacific University and a Nurse Practitioner for a community clinic.
Aside from working in the medical field, Angel had been a catechist for the Sacrament of Confirmation for adolescents and is a lector at her parish. In her journey of exploring and nurturing her faith, she felt a greater call to integrate both her profession and her faith into one. Over the years, Carlos had called her on occasion asking her professional opinion when he would use physiological phenomena to add scientific reasoning in his theological teachings. Eventually, their working relationship grew into what it is today.

Angel is a member of the National Association of Catholic Nurses, the American Nurses Association, the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (aka Sigma), and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

The Name: Humana Corpus Dignitate
Translating to "dignity of the human body", the name Humana Corpus Dignitate (HCD for short) came from this need to show the person's self-worth. As all of creation was good (Genesis 1), we must strive to understand who we are through the eyes of our Creator, God our Father in Heaven. The body itself is not an evil sinful being or creature, otherwise why would Christ Himself come to us in the flesh? In each of His miracles and interactions, Jesus treated each person with dignity, no matter their station in life. Jesus' humanity shows us that we are all worthy, we are all wonderfully and beautifully created.

The large "H" and each half of the circle make the letters "C" and "D" creating all three initials of HCD.

The circle with the cross represents the Host, the Body of Christ. Jesus' ultimate sacrifice shows us just how worthy we all are, that He was willing to suffer pain and die for us. In His death, He gave us His body, our Bread of Life.
